An Adobe Lightroom OH NO moment - Corrupt Catalog file

Started up Adobe Lightroom today and got the worst error messages anyone can have in Lightroom

"lightroom encountered an error when reading a catalog and needs to quit "
"Lightroom will attempt to diagnose the problem next time it launches"

Lightroom then just went into a loop as it was started up displaying the message above....

OH NO!!!

Although I have weekly backups , some of the newer edits were not on the backup.
After an extensive web search I  finally found a solution.
1. Make a copy of the problematic catalog file just in case
2. Rename the "bad" catalog file with a different name
3. Start-up lightroom and create a new Catalog
4. Use File -> import from catalog...
5. Choose the bad catalog file and  import it into Lightroom

Worked for me all pictures and XMP data have been imported into Lightroom and all is back to normal. Sigh
Hope it weill help anyone else with the same error.....
P.S. tested with Lightroom 2.5
